Bad Practices Of Web Designers

Web designers are human too and are therefore imperfect. So every once in a while we come across websites that are badly designed. Here are some common errors of web designers that you need to look out for.

  • Creating Distracting Backgrounds

Sometimes web designers tend to gravitate towards flashy and distracting looking backgrounds they forget that people need to be able to read the content. Having a background that is more eye-catching than the content can be off-putting to readers. It is better to have an appealing background, something that does not distract the viewers but is still able to give the site attractiveness and style.

  • Having Similar Text & Background Colors

Texts on websites should be seen clearly in order to be absorbed by the reader quickly. This is why having font color very similar to background colors is a no-no. Not only will this irritate your readers but this could get you penalized by search engines as well. Have good contrast between text and background colors for good SEO.

  • Tables

Web designers sometimes forget that tables are for data and not for website layouts. Tables are good for content placement only. Having a website that looks like a huge Excel sheet can be very unattractive to viewers.

  • Writing For Search Engines Not For Visitors

There are web designers who seem to think that content should be written for search engines. While keywords are important for SEO purposes, stuffing them in can cause your website to be banned by search engines. So always write for humans not for bots.

  • No CMS

Almost all websites today are built with content management systems. The more you edit and add to your content the more your site will get indexed by search engines. WordPress, Joomla and Drupal are examples of great CMS.
